Why don't democrats get the job done?

Many supporters of the democratic health care proposal are accusing their political leaders of cowardice in not properly using their congressional majorities to push through their plans. (here is an example)

Democrats in the House are scared because there are enough of them who know that these plans are bad for the country, and they're embarrassed. They were willing to go along while their proposals were popular or at least poorly understood. But then many citizens learned the details.

Democratic politicians now have a chance to escape shame and perhaps keep their seats. So despite what they say, they won't vote for it again until it is "safe".
